Position purpose

The Graduate role is a new position within the company as we continue to expand. This role is an integral part of our vision, "Innovating to secure a sustainable future for our people, our, product, our planet"

Reporting to the Research and Development Manager you will also work with the Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales teams. The successful candidate will be a great communicator and able to present technical solutions effectively to stakeholders at all levels. They will build sound and credible relationships. We are looking for a person who will bring energy creativity and enthusiasm. Key requirements for this role are

  • Be about to complete, or have recently completed, a masters or PhD degree in science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar ie have submitted a thesis for marking (or completed course requirement for taught masters) less than 12 months ago
  • Have undertaken the study at a New Zealand tertiary institution if you are not a New Zealand citizen
  • Be legally permitted to work in New Zealand
  • Not have been employed in the industry under a professional arrangement related to your area of study except temporary, part-time or at a tertiary organisation
  • You will have a high level of technical knowledge and skills related to polymer properties, formulation, processing, testing and evaluation
  • The ability to research and effectively communicate technical information related to conventional and sustainable polymer options.

Key duties & responsibilities

  • Focus on biopolymer development – research and identification of suitable compounds for extrusion and moulding applications
  • Liaise with Research Institutes and Universities on formulation development, testing and process development
  • Learn and develop skills in silicone rubber compound development
  • Internal and external material testing and evaluation
  • Assist in the development and launch of new products

Skills & experience

  • Be about to complete, or have recently completed, a masters or PhD degree in science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar ie have submitted a thesis for marking (or completed course requirement for taught masters) less than 12 months ago.

  • The ability to research and effectively communicate technical information related to conventional and sustainable polymer options.
  • Able to communicate easily and clearly with Crown Research, Universities and Commercial technical staff.
  • Keen interest in driving the uptake and usage of polymer solutions with a lower environmental impact within Australasia and Asia Pacific.
  • Ability to lead projects, as required, to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • You will have a high level of curiosity as curiosity breeds creativity and creativity breeds innovation.
  • Computer literate across MS Office, CRM programs, ERP systems, Project Management software e.g. Monday.com.
  • Ability to travel out of town and international travel (when the borders open!) if the position requires it.
